Meet Karyn Cunningham
Karyn has been a public servant her entire career.
She began as a first-grade teacher with Miami-Dade County Public Schools for 18 years. In 2004, she began serving with United Teachers of Dade, where she continues to work part-time in Member Advocacy. She specializes in review of public policy, community engagement, local and legislative advocacy, communications, and membership support.
In addition to her service in Palmetto Bay, she serves on many local not for profit boards, including The Melissa Institute for Violence and Prevention, Community Health of South Florida Capital Fund Advisory Board, the Palmetto Bay Business Association, Friends of Chapman Field Board, The Edge Helps Foundation, and she is the 2nd Vice President of the Miami Area Salvation Army Advisory Board.
In 2014, Karyn was elected to serve as Councilwoman for the Village of Palmetto Bay, where she spearheaded a number of initiatives to improve her community. After four years, she decided to run for Mayor and has been continuing her work to make Palmetto Bay a better place to live, work, learn, and play.
